The Green City Farm is located next to Perho’s Malmi campus

KEKE-opas: Green City FarmGreen City Farm serves as a learning environment for all Perho educational sectors and provides a concrete way for students to see how sustainable farming works. This enables students to get first-hand experience on where food comes from, how it is transferred ecologically and in line with sustainable gastronomy from the field to the kitchen and ultimately on the plate. The field acts as a phenomenon-based learning environment, combining sustainable development, entrepreneurship, product development and expertise in raw materials with various parts of the curriculum, all as it happens in working life.

Restaurant, tourism and business students can see where food comes from, how it is transferred ecologically and in line with sustainable gastronomy from the field to the kitchen and ultimately on the customer’s plate. The field act as a phenomenon-based learning environment, to which entrepreneurship, marketing and product development can also be linked.

Community-supported agriculture fosters biodiversity

The operation of the field is based on the Community Supported Agriculture model, supporting small-scale and organic farming, combining urban residents and stakeholders.

Cultivation of the field was started in May 2017, first focusing on soil improvement, with the target of revitalising the soil’s nutrients and micro-organisms through natural methods. During 2018–2019, the cultivation of plants and herbs was extended to the current number of more than 30 different species.
