Sustainable development is included in the targets of our education, and form part of our working-life development and innovation activities. As proof of our long-term work to promote sustainable development, we are awarded a sustainable development certificate.
Our sustainable development certificate
Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College was awarded a sustainable development certificate by the OKKA Foundation for Teaching, Education and Personal Development on 21 Dec. 2018.
The sustainable development certificate was given ceremoniously to Perho CTB College at both campuses
The certificate covers all operations that were merged in 2017 into the Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College. The primary purpose of the certification is to support the work done for sustainable development by the training provider.
The certification is used to develop training and learning environments to support the targets of sustainable development education. A self-assessment covering the entire institution will be conducted again during the 2020/21 academic year.
Sustainability Report (GRI)
In addition to having obtained a sustainable development certificate, Perho also commissioned an extensive Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) report in 2019 to improve its operations to better meet the challenges brought about by climate change also in terms of its educational services and guidance.
The GRI report is used, among other things, in the development of teaching and operating practices and in future self-assessment and certification of sustainable development.
Sustainable development programme
Perho CTB College has drawn up a sustainable development programme that is based on the sustainable development certification system maintained by the OKKA Foundation for Teaching, Education and Personal Development.
The goal with our sustainable development programme is to help realise the targets arising from sustainable-development self-assessments results. Students and the staff are encouraged to find dignity in their humanity and to draw significance and joy of life from their connection with other people. This way we will learn to take responsibility for other people and the environment and to understand and cherish biodiversity.
Staff and students alike take part in planning sustainable development activities, setting the targets and selecting annual themes, and also implementation and development. Perho CTBC has a Sustainable Development Working Group, with members representing both staff and students. The working group is responsible for Perho’s sustainable-development self-assessment process, reporting on the results and follow-up regarding issues that have emerged during audits.
Sustainable development themes
Sustainable development is a matter for everyone at Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College and we develop our learning environments together to support our sustainable development educational targets. The Sustainable Development Working Group suggests themes for each academic year for the staff and students to choose from. The themes guide our day-to-day responsibility work and includes students to participate. The Sustainable Development Working Group supports the realisation of the themes to achieve common objectives. The themes are discussed from a variety of angles during the year in communication, training and various events. Good practices arising from the themes will be incorporated into the teaching, day-to-day activities and the operating culture.
The 2020/21 sustainable development theme is the Perho CTBC’s ecosystem
The current year’s sustainable development theme is ‘being a member of the Perho CTBC community’ (#perholainen). A Perho CTBC member is supportive, polite, reliable, bold, open, values the work of others and is proud to represent Perho CTBC.
Although we have been forced to be apart during these exceptional times, we miss being together and doing things together. When things return to normal, we will probably appreciate each other and meeting face to face more than before. This spring and being restricted to social distancing have shown how important we are to each other.
During the next academic year, 2020/2021, we will continue with the #perholainen theme by discussing our community, doing things together, and networks. During the 2020/21 academic year, our sustainable development theme is the Perho CTBC’s ecosystem.

We seek answers together to the following questions: What is the Perho CTBC’s ecosystem and how do we fit in with the surrounding ecosystem? What is Perho CTBC’s functional entity? How can we act together as members of Perho CTBC and larger community to create a more sustainable society?
