Vocational Qualification of Restaurant and Catering Services, competence area: Customer Service, 180 cp

Restaurant Waiters are trained to carry out customer service tasks, as well as work in sales in the hospitality industry with different business ideas or missions.

To become a hospitality expert, we offer work-based studies by apprenticeship contract or training agreement. You come to school monthly for two days and study also online. There is no tuition fee. Studies lasts 1–1,5 years on average.


A Restaurant Waiter is a hospitality expert who has completed the competence area of customer service and is qualified to work at various tasks in the hospitality field like hotels and lounges, cruise ships, restaurants with different concepts, nightclubs and cocktail bars, cafés and catering, tourism service companies or various institutions.

Restaurant Waiters serve customers in a customer-oriented manner using professional terms. They are also profitable, productive and responsible in a sales-minded and quality-conscious. They can also operate with hygiene requirements per compliance and sustainable operating practices.

Starting the work-based studies

  • Studies takes place as an apprenticeship or a training agreement with your employer.
  • On average, two monthly school days at Töölö Campus, Perhonkatu 11, FI-00100 Helsinki.

You can apply if

  • you live in Finland.
  • you have previous work experience in restaurants at least one year
  • and your current employer is willing to sign an apprenticeship or a training agreement.
  • you have sufficient level of English language skills.

You can send your application to work-based studies at any time in the continuous admission. We will contact you by email within two weeks of receiving your application.

We will invite selected applicants for an interview and entrance test based on their application and supporting documents, including educational certificates and a motivation letter. In the interview, we pay attention to your career plan, motivation, and preconditions in studying the vocational qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services.
