Target group and requirements

  • strong written and spoken English skills
  • basic oral and written Finnish skills
  • genuine motivation to work with an international clientele in diverse customer service roles
  • previous experience in customer service
  • confident presentation and communication skills
  • sufficient physical condition, as the work involves extensive walking and standing
  • readiness and ability to study in an online learning environment

Interviews

Interviews will be held during 1–4 September 2026.

Representatives of Perho Culinary, Tourism and Business College will make a pre-selection based on the applications. Applicants who meet the requirements will be invited to a face-to-face interview. It is therefore important that the application clearly describes the applicant’s suitability and motivation to work as a Travel Assistant.

About the Training

The Travel Assistant Training focuses on customer service and essential guiding skills needed in an international work environment. The ultimate goal is to complete the competence demonstration for the unit Guiding in a Foreign Language (tutkinnon osa: Opastaminen vieraalla kielellä), which is part of the Further Vocational Qualification in Guide Services. The demonstration includes planning and delivering a guided service in central Helsinki.

The training is delivered as multiform learning, combining contact lessons, practical training, and online studies. Most lessons take place on the Töölö campus and in central Helsinki.

Contact Lessons

Contact lessons are held 2–3 afternoons per week between 3–7 PM, mainly on the Töölö campus. In addition, two Saturday morning practice sessions are included. Furthermore, participants complete independent tasks and assignments.
