Opinnot järjestetään päiväopintoina. Ravintola- ja catering-alan perustutkinnon suorittanut kokki osaa maukkaan ruoanvalmistuksen ja tarjoilun perusasiat ja voi työskennellä kokkina erilaisin liikeideoin toimivissa ravintoloissa. Perustutkinnon voi nopeimmillaan suorittaa 1,5 vuodessa!

Usko pois valmistut vauhdilla kokin ammattiin

Heti opintojen alussa kanssasi tehdään henkilökohtainen osaamisen kehittämisuunnitelma (HOKS). Elämäsi opintojen pyörteissä kulkee nopeasti, kun jo hankkimasi osaaminen, lukio- tai muut opinnot ynnä ravintola-alan työkokemus lyhentävät kokkiopintojesi pituutta. Opiskella voit läpi vuoden, halutessasi myös kesällä.

Kokin opinnot toteutetaan työelämälähtöisesti. Saat monipuolisen ja käytännönläheisen ammattitaidon ja vahvistat työelämätaitojasi.

Niin meni sekin opiskeluvuosi ja olet valmistunut kokiksi.

Opiskele ruoanvalmistusta ja kehitä englannin kielen taitoasi

Onko sinua kiehtonut ajatus opinnoista englannin kielellä? Perho Liiketalousopistossa voit opiskella kokin ammattiin englanniksi. Eikä sinun tarvitse olla siinä mikään mestari. Puolitoista vuotta kokin opintoja ja ruoanvalmistusta kansainvälisessä ryhmässä petraa kielitaitoasi samalla kun tutustut uusiin kulttuureihin ja erilaisiin näkemyksiin.

What are cook’s duties?

A restaurant cook prepares various tasty appetizers, entrées and desserts from fresh ingredients and follows recipes as well as mixes ingredients and prepares many types of foods using various cooking methods.

Also a restaurant cook who has completed the qualification prepares nutritious and wholesome food taking into account special diets.

Who can apply for a study place?

  • Finnish citizens and immigrants who already live in Finland.
  • You have upper secondary qualification/ previous general upper secondary education but, do not already have vocational qualification, a degree or a study place.
  • Also, if you have work experience in restaurants or you have been an entrepreneur, but lack a vocational qualification, Perho’s Restaurant Cook studies is the right study path for you.

Length of studies

The length of the studies is 1,5–2 years on average.

Restaurant Cook – Work-Based Studies

Apprenticeship training is a fast-track to become a Restaurant Cook

Vocational Qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services, Food Services

You can study the English-taught vocational qualification for the Restaurant Cook work-based by apprenticeship agreement (oppisopimus) and earn money at the same time, if

  • you already have some experience and a working place in a restaurant
  • your employer is willing to sign an apprenticeship or training contract with you and Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College.

The studies start and continue individually. The length of the studies is  1–1,5 years on average. There is no tuition fee.

What’s up, MICHELE?

I come from Italy, from the province of Bari in the Apulia Region, Region nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea. I’ve been living in Finland  for a few years now and I’ve became well aware of the kind of approach and the habits of the Finns towards the kitchen, and more particularly towards the Italian one, how much they appreciate it and remain enthusiastic, referring to classic Italian dishes.

Currently ther are 14 different nationalities in my class, which makes us a proud group. Each of us comes from a different culture, and in our diversity we find the richness and beauty of sharing our time in a daily way at Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College learning from ourselves and from what we create.

Why did you apply to study at Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College?

Since I came to Finland I have been working as a cook. Full-time in the kitchen, more specifically in the kitchen branch of my home country Italy.

Essentially I decided strongly to enter in the culinary studies to deepen the field of cooking in a country like Finland where there is a clear increase in gastronomic level in a profession in which I strongly believe, where the gastronomy before anything else is culture which is transmitted in own dishes.

I knew the importance and relevance of Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College at a national level. Then I noticed the publicity of the course of studies in the metro so I went deeper into the situation and advanced my candidacy. You bet I was extremely happy, when I was selected as a student!

Your Story

I have values and principles that I strongly believe in and I always carry on with me every day. There are essential elements such as interest, curiosity and motivation that are fundamental to growth on everyday work.

At the moment my main activity is strictly focused on the school, in giving the maximum, learning as much as possible and making excellent external training experiences, like the one I will start soon in a very important and renowned Finnish-style restaurant. Can’t wait to start.

I work extra when it happens and I always cultivate my passion for music, I play drums and try to keep myself in training whenever possible. I spend my free time with my good friends and I often go to gigs and events.

Traveling is always a priority when it is possible to do so.

Restaurant Cook Application Period

English-taught study program

Develop your skills by studying at Perho and become a restaurant professional! Restaurant Cook application period is from 16 September to 31 October, 2019. Student intake is 20.

The English-taught study program is directed to foreigners who already live in Finland as well as Finns without vocational qualification, degree or a study place. Also, if you have work experience in restaurants or you have been an entrepreneur, but lack a vocational qualification, Perho’s Restaurant Cook studies is the right study path for you.

Entrance interview and written test will be held from 20 to 22 of November 2019 at Perho Culinary, Tourism and Business College at Töölö Campus.

Vocational upper secondary qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services

  • competence area in Food Service, Restaurant Cook
  • duration of the studies is approximately 1,5 to 2 years
  • no tuition fee*
  • studies will start in 7 of January 2020.

*In Finland, free education has extended to cover also citizens of other countries.

  • general upper secondary qualifications
  • a sufficient command of the English language

Foreign Applicants

  • sufficient level of previous general upper secondary education
  • a sufficient command of the English language

2/ Restaurant Cook Fast Track Studies

FastApprenticeship or training agreement are the optional english-taught studies for the qualification for Restaurant Cook.

  • you have a working place in a restaurant and your employer is willing to sign an apprenticeship or a training contract
  • duration of the studies is one and a half year
